The Motel 6 where we are staying does not offer a continental breakfast so we checked out a local restaurant that was recommended by the motel for a hearty breakfast before heading to Joshua Tree National Park for the day.
We started our visit at the Oasis Visitor Center where we picked up a map and received some tips for traveling through the park and special places to see. There was an excellent display inside the center describing the flora and fauna that we might find in the park as well as a topographic map of the area which highlighted landscape features.

Joshua Trees
Not really trees but succulents
The desert is so beautiful in the Springtime. There are many plants in bloom that in other times of year are dried up or brown. Additionally the temperature is in the 70's . . . perfect.

| Keys View |

It was so clear at Keys View today that we could see nearly 95 miles to the Mexican Border
The above rock face is in an area of the park that is renowned for rock climbing . . . if you look at the center of the picture you will see a white dot. Now look at the picture below and see the climber we saw scaling the rocks. Really cool to watch.
We stopped by this big guy in Joshua Tree California where every May they have a Desert Tortoise Festival.
For dinner we found an excellent local restaurant whose specialty is ribs. Al enjoyed a half rack and I had an excellent pulled pork sandwich.
Tomorrow we head to Nevada.
