03.26.14 Geocaching in Idaho

The area from Mountain Home to Boise has over 1500 geocaches and we knew we would not have time or even the interest to do them all this trip but  we had planned a 2 day visit to the area . Today since we had our car all set, a new MiFi, the laundry done and our credit cards on their way, we decided to try a day of power caching. Oh yes, I forgot to put in on of my previous posts that the credit card that we use for hotels had a fraud alert on it for a charge in Mississippi . . . .we arenn't even there yet so they froze the account and sent us all new cards since we are on the road still . . . UPS Express right to the hotel.
So back to the caching . . . we drove down to just South of Mountain Home near the Snake River.
Snake River Valley

Another view of the Snake River

The Snake River Valley is an area that the Oregon Trail went through . . . .it is rugged and beautiful at the same time. We also tried caching on a dirt road that was described as being accessible by the family car but I guess in Idaho the family car is a 4 x 4 truck . . . because our Grand Caravan was not going to make it through the ruts just like yesterday.
You can't see the ruts in the picture but they are there
The one thing we found really interesting in this area was that the tumbleweed lines up along the fences to make tumbleweed fence . . . .a nice change from the plastic garbage fences of New Mexico.
The caches were not like any other power trail we had done and in the end it took us about 6 hours to get 150 caches . . . not complaining though we had a great time traveling the back roads of Idaho.

Tomorrow we make our way through the mountain passes (hopefully) to Seattle to visit Karen. There is rain predicted here and in Seattle but we have 3 passes to get through and we have our fingers crossed for no or little snow..
